Vintage Russel Wright American Modern 3 piece Stack Set-Coral Glaze

American Modern dinnerware is hand glazed and pieces vary in coloration and uniformity of glaze application. These early mid-century pieces have crazes in the glaze, and hairline cracks are common. Every effort is made to show these as well as any chips or dings. Regardless of size or location. It is common for items of this age to have utensil marks or other usage evidence. Look closely at the pictures and ask questions if you are unsure. In 1939 Russel Wright introduced American Modern dinnerware as the contemporary American style. It was an affordable price range and was carried by Gimbel's, Altman's, Bloomingdale's and J. Ads featured iconic modern furniture and Campbell's soup cans along with the American Modern designs. The design style was difficult to define but it was a clear break from Art Deco. The design was born out of the Great Depression and was considered lean with a spareness of detail combined with functionalism. It won the designers award in 1941. Wright changed the rainbow of colors by going with muted, softly glowing glazes that had a textural feeling. The original colors were: Seafoam Blue, Granite Grey, Chartreuse Curry, Coral, Bean Brown and White. Black Chutney and Cedar Green were added in 1950 and Canteloupe and Glacier Blue were added in 1955.
Steubenville Blue occurred during WWII as a result of Cobalt being restricted. It is a very rare color. The line consisted of 46 pieces over half of which are rare and hard to find. This item is in the category "Pottery & Glass\Decorative Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Dishes".
